Blackheads are a common type of acne that happens when pores become clogged with oil (sebum), dead skin cells, and sometimes bacteria. Unlike whiteheads, blackheads stay open to the air, and the top surface darkens due to oxidation, giving them their black appearance. Blackheads can appear almost anywhere, but they are most common on the face — especially the nose, chin, and forehead (also called the T-zone).
